Announcement from Malaysian Government on the implementation of Tourism Tax
Kindly take note that all hotel in Malaysia will be collecting the Tourism Tax from Tourists/Foreigner that staying with the hotel starting from 31 Aug 2017 where applicable.
As gazetted under the Tourism Tax Act 2017, all foreign guests of Hotels, Resorts, Inns and Service Residences will be subject to a Tourism Tax for stays from 1st September 2017. This applies even if the accommodation is on sharing basis with a Malaysian. Only accommodations solely occupied by Malaysian Citizens and/or Permanent Residents with valid MY PR Cards will be exempted.
The Tourism Tax is set at RM10.00 per room/per night and will be a supplementary charge in addition to the prevailing room charges and taxes.
For all stays, including those with prevailing room charges and taxes prepaid; or those on billing to a 3rd party company, the Tourism Tax will be charged to the guest(s) directly at the hotel.
Exemptions will only be made for room stays solely registered to, and entirely occupied by guests with proof of citizenship (valid Malaysian Passport or Malaysian Identity Card) or with valid MY PR cards. These are to be produced at point of check-in at the hotel.
